A Dog’s Eye View of Victoria, British Columbia

I like the north, that’s that. While I haven’t had quite as much freedom as when we were in Wisconsin, I’m back to running and hiking and swimming.

Holy bacon biscuits, that feels good to say!

We took a late ferry over to Canada last Friday. I got pretty stressed out on the boat. There were a lot of people standing too close to us, and I wanted to go sniff everything but I couldn’t.

I could smell the ocean, but I couldn’t get to it. Eventually I settled down and fell asleep. Before I knew it, we were in Candada!

A Dog Visits Victoria

Our AirBnb in Victoria was pretty great – we had a little studio apartment with a private entrance. It was pretty hot, but get this — we were just a few blocks away from a huge park. Even better? The park was full of lakes and no one wore leashes.

We went every. Single. Day.

Kayla is taking me running again, but other days we just walked around the lake while I went swimming and ran around like a madman. It was amazing.

I got lost one day becuase I brought a stick to a stranger and he threw it, then I got lost in the game. It was so fun. Kayla started carrying treats again on walks and runs though, and doesn’t let me wander quite as far. She threatened me that she’d make me wear a muzzle so I couldn’t play fetch if I kept running off.

Sigh.

Sometimes it feels like your parents just don’t get you.

Anyway, I loved Thetis Lake Park. Swimming is my FAVORITE.

We did a bunch of scentwork outside and Kayla and Andrew watched a lot of WestWorld. Otherwise, we basically just went hiking and they worked.

During the day, Andrew and Kayla took me to a bunch of different coffee shops. Almost everywhere in Victoria has outdoor seating, so they took turns sitting outside in the shade with me. I love spending so much time with them!

We went to say hi to the seals one day, but didn’t see any. I got pretty freaked out on the floating dock, but I got to go swimming after. That makes everything ok.

After a short seven days, we boarded another ferry. I kind of “get” the boat thing now, I guess. So I just stared at the waves while Kayla and Andrew talked about their five and ten year plans. I don’t have many plans right now. Just enjoying the off-leash life.
